I have a whole new bunch of courses starting soon and you're welcome to take a place. Here's how it works, what it is and why you should get involved.
What I do/offer.
Ten week meet ups for beginners, Improvers and intermediates. Each session lasts two hours, drinks after (usually). All sessions are designed to encourage group playing and having fun. Each course comes with over 100 pages of resources available online before course start date - so there's plenty to get your teeth stuck into! Some of the more complex sessions come with youtube instruction, like this.
At the end of each course we have a big old party where you can play with your group to a supportive crowd in a pub, this is great for confidence and always feels like a milestone met followed by a hangover that feels like that mile stone might have fallen on your head. Here's what one of our nights look like
I am a professional teacher that has taught in schools and colleges. My qualifications are mixed between music and teaching, I spent three years at Leeds School of Music and two years at Leeds trinity college getting my act together as a teacher. I've taught for about fifteen years, which at thirty, makes up for 50% of my life and makes me feel strange when I think about it! I've taught literally hundreds of people, maybe close to my first thousand now but I'm not counting so who knows, you could be number 1000. Legend has it that student 1000 becomes rich... honest.
Outside of class I organise practice sessions that you can take part in. I'm not present during these sessions so it's a chance to get together and help each other out and bitch about your tutor without me dishing out detentions. I also organise a whole load of fun events including gig nights, music movie nights, music book clubs, jam sessions, open mics and an annual trip outside of London on a music retreat. In summer 2015 15 of us went camping in Kent, in 2016 we're expecting about 30 to join us.Through things like face book, email, whatsapp and good old fashioned face to face contact most of my student base are good friends now which alongside musical progress, makes me feel really good and counters the strange feeling I get about teaching for half my life (see above)
Successes so far!
Guitar social has had an amazing year. Classes have been held nearly every day of the week, (meet up only reflects about 20% of what's on offer and who is involved) More than 70 people have performed for the first time ever by joining the guitar social, many whom had never played prior. The guitar social has slowly got bigger, all our social events are now packed with great people that just want to either learn more, or, quite often, help others play better, it is thriving community that exists through the love of it.
In spring 2015 The guitar social launched a social enterprise arm offering free music classes to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people (to counter previous sins and hopefully square up with the big fella)
Here's a youtube play list showcasing some of the fun we've had

Finally, here's some kind words that people have said over the last 12 months.
'...one of the most dedicated tutors I have come across...I worry about you!' I quite liked this one because I worry about myself too...
'I've learnt more in ten weeks that in my previous four years of trying'
'The best thing I've done'
'The guitar social is amazing and the effort you have put in is amazing too. Thank you'
Okay, all done! Let's get our groove on.
