Some of you may be starting to think that our group dines primarily at Asian restaurants. Actually, that has been absolutely true for the past few months, so how about a change of pace? Let's take advantage of San Diego's warm, sunny weather and have an outdoor Italian lunch! It's the next best thing to dining al fresco in Florence or Rome!
When it comes to Old Town dining, most people think of Mexican food, and for good reason. However, Pizza Bella Italian Bistro, a very good, underrated Italian restaurant, has operated in Old Town since 1970. It's located on the northern fringe of Old Town in a more quiet part of the neighborhood, so perhaps that's why it isn't very well known. But Pizza Bella has thrived for over four decades because it serves very good, solid Italian fare at reasonable prices. Pizza Bella offers a wide variety of pasta, sandwiches, salads, calzones and other Italian specialties in addition to pizza. They also have a good wine list. And the service is excellent. Pizza Bella is truly "The Best Kept Secret in Old Town." If you haven't had the pleasure of dining at this excellent Italian restaurant, now is your chance!
We will meet in the spacious outdoor courtyard. Don't worry if it's sunny and warm because the restaurant will provide large umbrellas for shade. This is what the courtyard looks like:
We will share appetizers and order our own meals (which you can share if you want, of course) and drinks. We will ask for just one check and will add a tip and split the bill equally among ourselves. (This is how friends do it in Italy, by the way.) Please bring small bills for ease of payment.
Here are the website and Yelp page for PIzza Bella Italian Bistro. Note that the restaurant receives a solid 4-star rating on Yelp from 174 reviewers.
