From airplanes to automobiles, IOT is having a huge impact on transportation. This month IOT Hub will be focusing on connected transportation. A panel of speakers from Boeing (, Elektrobit (EB) ( and Zonar ( will be discussing how IOT is affecting the aerospace, automobile and trucking industries, and delve into what the future looks like:

Robert J. Rencher, Associate Technical Fellow, The Boeing Company
As a Sr. System Engineer, Robert's primary area of expertise is in the identification and validation of strategic Information Technology solutions for Boeing and the aviation industry. He is a recognized as an effective expert in addressing issues related to complex airline information systems; specifically the integration, security and performance of the global information technology infrastructure utilized by the commercial aviation industry. In 2014 Robert was asked to co-lead the Boeing enterprise Internet of Things/Digital Business strategy team. His contributions in this responsibility include leading the identification of opportunities, proposing strategic partnering relationships and the demonstration of Boeing's strategic technical capability. In addition, Robert works closely with NIST, NCOIC, and the FAA on issues of national airspace security. Robert has over 30 years of experience in solving complex computing solutions. He joined Boeing in 1987 as a Systems Analyst. Prior to Boeing, Robert holds a BS degree in Operations Research and MBA in Information Technology. Robert became a Boeing Associate Technical Fellow in 2007.

Artur Seidel, VP of Automotive Software, Elektrobit (EB)

Since 2006, Artur Seidel has led the establishment of Elektrobit (EB) in North America following EB’s acquisition of 3SOFT in Erlangen, Germany. Seidel continues to successfully grow the embedded software business working with major U.S. automotive manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers. Previously, he was a senior manager of EB’s wireless software development business unit. Prior to joining EB in 2000, Seidel managed software development activities for Siemens Corporation in the United States. He holds a master’s degree in technology management from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s of science in precision engineering from the Fachhochschule Karlsruhe in Germany. Seidel is based in Bothell, Washington.

Ron Stieger, Chief Hardware Engineer, Zonar

Zonar Systems, a leading provider of telematics solutions for commercial vehicle fleets, majority owned by Continental AG, a major global automotive electronics manufacturer. He is responsible for hardware and firmware development for Zonar’s V3™ telematics device, 2020® and Connect™ tablets, Virtual Technician hardware for Daimler Trucks North America, and other devices. He also helps define how vehicle and driver data are collected, aggregated, and analyzed. Previous automotive experience includes hardware development of the MyFord Touch® while at BSquare. Ron has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Caltech and an MBA from the University of Washington, along with online courses in big data, data science, and software as a service.
