Calling all Irish music lovers, dancers, and culture aficionados! Ottawa Irish Arts hosts monthly social nights (céilís) with live music (traditional Irish), dances (we'll teach you if you don't know the steps), great craic (Irish for "fun"), and good beer (no more explanation needed!)
We also host concerts, traditional music sessions, and dance workshops, and we offer dance and language classes as well.
Come out and meet new people in Ottawa, kick up your heels on the dance floor, enjoy live tunes and have a night you won't soon forget! It's a great way to meet new people, get a little exercise (or a lot!), and take in some of the best musicians in town.
Brigid's Well (Saint Brigid's Center for the Arts) - Use Cumberland Street Entrance (stairs!)
Tickets required. Link below.
Try something new, bring some friends, and make new ones. Enjoy an afternoon learning the basics of Irish Set Dancing!
Set dancing is best summed up as 'Irish square dancing;' to Irish music, of course! Sets are arranged as 4 couples in a square. This style of dance goes back well over a century (more info here: http://www.ottawacomhaltas.com/dance.php).
Beginners are most welcome.
Couples do not have to be male-female for this workshop. Single registrants will be paired with another person.
Maureen Mulvey (Ireland, now Toronto) is the instructor, and has taught set dancing for decades and one of the best instructors in North America.
By the end of the workshop you will have a good base for dancing at any Irish Set Dance event.
Bring suitable shoes for indoor dancing. Dress comfortably, and bring a water bottle. Street parking is available and the Murray Street City garage is less than a block away.
We recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time though tickets at the door will be available.
Entrance via the pub on Cumberland Street which is in the building of the former Saint Brigid's Church.
For those interested, after the workshop there will be a social gathering afterwards in the adjoining Irish pub, Brigid's Well.
