1. Distributor seeking medical devices for Texas
We have an inquiry from a top-notch medical distributor/manufacturer's rep looking to distribute unique medical products to the many hospitals (including smaller regional hospitals), surgery centers, anesthesiologists, interventional radiologists/cardiologists, podiatrists and physician groups hospitals with whom they have strong relationships.
The distributor differentiates itself from the larger distributors in the marketplace by maintaining a personable sales force who regularly visit their clients, retaining relationships with physicians & hospital staff, and focusing on one brand in each product grouping, whereas the sales personnel from larger distributors tend to be primarily order takers that represent multiple brands across each product line (all of which compete with each other).
Furthermore, they will make an agreement with the supplier (or manufacturer) to carry their product(s) exclusively within their specific product groups and will not carry the competitive products. This ensures that manufacturers' products are the focus of their marketing campaigns and get sold. Similarly, the distributor will be looking for exclusivity of the products supplied to them by the manufacturer.
In addition, the distributor is a stocking distributor that carries inventory of their products in their own warehouses. They also can discuss guaranteeing inventory purchase amounts over both short- and long- terms. This distributor is almost always on-site at the time of delivery of their sales to ensure proper receipt of merchandise and customer satisfaction.
Unlike other companies, the distributor stands by their products, partners with their manufacturers, and manages relationships with their clients. Therefore, they are seeking three different types of companies (or manufacturers of medical products):
1) Manufacturers that are confident of receiving FDA approval in the near-term to begin discussions regarding distribution in the US
2) Manufacturers that have already received FDA approval and seek a US distributor
3) Manufacturers that are currently dissatisfied with the results and/or service of their distributor
