Presentation by Roberto Pieraccini, Jibo, Inc.
Building machines that understand speech is a complex task that involves acoustic, phonetics, signal processing, linguistics, machine learning, statistics, computer science and software engineering. We have been trying to do that for more than 60 years, and yet machines are still far from human speech and language capabilities, although getting closer and closer. Why is it so hard? Where are we now? I will give a glimpse on the history of this fascinating technology through my personal experience of more than 30 years, and my vision of what's next.
