In this duo talk, Jeff and Darren will examine how English became the dominant, global language it is today and consider its growth as a model for how UX can continue to become a dominant force in design. How has UX become one of the fastest growing and most desirable careers? The answer for both is assimilation and adaptation. This talk will inspire designers to blur the lines between different fields of study—anthropology, visual design, library science, psychology, motion design, data science, coding, industrial design, and countless others—and bring their personal passions into their work and into the future of UX.

ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS
Darren is a UX expert who has led teams that made technology better for millions of people globally. Before leading the international UX organization for Sophos, Darren co-founded Specific Clarity, worked at Microsoft, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies, LexisNexis, HELP, and IBM. He was a US representative to the standards body of the UN’s agency for information and communication technologies. He has degrees from Dartmouth College and Rutgers College. He holds 11 US patents, 6 international patents, and has 185 patent citations. Darren is based in Dayton, OH, and when he isn't creating better UX, he is a husband, a dad, a beekeeper, a sculptor, and a painter.
Jeff inherited an affinity for understanding people from his dad (a psychologist) and a preference for logical, usable systems from his mother (a librarian). Add a degree in Technical Communication, and you have the raw ingredients for a researcher, information architect, writer, and designer. For over a decade, Jeff has been leading UX work at startups, agencies, consultancies, and software companies. He currently leads a team of talented designers at Paycor, a fast-growing HR software company.
