IxDA Oslo and The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (http://aho.no/) (AHO) are organizing a full-day workshop on the future of UX education.
Who is the workshop for?
We are inviting educators, researchers, professionals looking for better ways to train their colleagues and hiring managers looking to increase the number of well-qualified UX candidates entering the job market.
Which issues will we tackle?
The workshop will deal with four key issues facing user experience professionals today:
1. Our field is undergoing rapid change. What competency will be required of a UX professional in 2025, and how should we teach these skills? To help us answer this, we've invited Joyce Yee and Emma Jefferies who have researched the practices of 42 design firms around the world for the Design Transitions (http://designtransitionsbook.com/) project to share their findings and talk about the future of design and UX.
2. It's not just students who will need to be taught new subjects. What options for training, apprenticeship and continuing education will those already working need to keep their skillsets relevant in a rapidly evolving field?
3. The demand for skilled UX professionals keeps growing, and there just aren't enough experienced practitioners available. How can we double, triple our even quadruple the number of skilled candidates entering the profession, and at the same time increase the quality and relevance of their formal education so they can have better and more rewarding careers?
4. How should schools and industry collaborate? How can those who teach user experience and those who practice it support each other for mutual success?
The workshop will be held in English.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time UX educators and professionals in Norway are meeting to discuss these questions in detail, and our hope is that this workshop will be the start of a fruitful and lasting collaboration between industry and academia.

About the facilitators
Joyce Yee (http://uk.linkedin.com/in/joyceyee) is a senior lecturer at UK’s Northumbria University’s Design School (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/sd/academic/scd/), teaching interaction, service and design methodologies across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Joyce holds a Master of Arts in Visual Communication from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (UK) and was awarded a PhD in Design from Northumbria University. She has over 10 years working experience in a wide range of academic and professional environments as a graphic, interaction and service designer and has been publishing research since 2003 (http://www.northumbria.ac.uk/sd/academic/scd/aboutus/designstaff/joyceyee).
Emma Jefferies (http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=26164333) is an independent design consultant working with global innovation and design teams in Asia, Europe and South America to improve the way they innovate. Working under the name of The Design Doctors (http://www.emmajefferies.com/), she pulls together networks of great minds from academia and industry to support the further development of design’s role in the innovation space. She holds a Multimedia Design degree and an internationally award-winning Design PhD from Northumbria University, UK on enhancing visual practices.
Rachel Abrams (http://www.linkedin.com/in/rdabrams) is a British designer based in New York. She is on the faculty of the Design for Social Innovation (http://dsi.sva.edu/) and Interaction Design MFA (http://interactiondesign.sva.edu/) programs at the School of Visual Arts (http://www.sva.edu/) in New York City, and is a former adjunct professor at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (http://itp.nyu.edu/itp/) at New York University. She is founder of Turnstone Consulting (http://www.turnstoneconsulting.com/), a design strategy studio that collaborates locally, nationally and internationally with municipal and commercial clients. A thought leader in design, Rachel lectures publicly, is on the board of the AIGA New York (http://aigany.org/) and a fellow of the Design Trust for Public Space (http://designtrust.org/), and has been a special advisor to two major urban infrastructure programs in NYC over the last 8 years. Over 25 magazines, journals and blogs have published her writing about the social impact of emerging technologies and the value of design to business and public life.
Andrea Resmini (http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=3659994) is an assistant professor at Jönköping International Business School (http://hj.se/jibs/en.html), in Jönköping, Sweden. Architect, designer, compulsive reader and pensive writer, Andrea holds a MA in Architecture and Industrial Design from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy and a PhD in Legal Informatics from the University of Bologna, Italy.
Andrea is the co-author of "Pervasive Information Architecture (http://pervasiveia.com/)", Morgan Kauffman (2011), and the editor for the upcoming "Reframing Information Architecture (http://www.springer.com/computer/hci/book/978-3-319-06491-8)", a volume in the Springer HCI Series (2014). He is currently the Editor in Chief of theJournal of Information Architecture (http://journalofia.org/) and a past two-term president of the Information Architecture Institute (http://iainstitute.org/).
