Subject: Greater Detroit Jazz Society Jazz-o-Gram: GDJS Concert Cancelled Tomorrow / Other Jazz Events

Dear Jazz Fans,

We have made a decision, based on the National Weather Service forecast, to cancel our Greater Detroit Johnny Trudell concert at Shield's in Southfield tomorrow. We will reschedule this band at a later date. If you were planning to attend and know others without e-mail, please help us spread the word.

Here's info about some other great events, so please see below:

Its the Bayou River Dixieland Band, perfoming at the Howell Opera House at 123 Grand River in downtown Howell.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets at the door are $7 each. Be at the Opera house before 7:30 p.m., Phone[masked],

Hi Sally,

Just a quick note about the Toledo Jazz Orchestra at the Valentine Theatre this Saturday night February 1st at 8:00 P.M. playing the music of Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson and Buddy Rich.  The concert features Count Basie lead trumpeter Mike Williams, Maynard Ferguson's last lead player Patrick Hession, Buddy Rich's former lead trumpet Dave Tippett and Dwight Adams (Stevie Wonder and well know Detroit jazz star).  Also featured will be Gene Parker, Russ Miller, Gary Schunk, Dan Maslanka (as Buddy Rich and all of the other big band drummers), Steve Wood and more.  The band will play early hits - Woodchopper's Ball, Early Autumn, Four Brothers, Apple Honey, Come Rain Or Come Shine, etc... along with more contemporary charts by the bands - Norwegian Wood, Central Park West, Midnight Run, Nutville and more.  Patrick Hession will be performing Maynard's "Danny Boy" in tribute to that song's 100th anniversary.
Tickets range from $22.00 to $32.00 and can be purchased at or by calling the Valentine Theatre box office at (419)[masked].  For those interested in spending the night, there are rooms available at the Holiday Inn in Perrysburg - and Sunday morning Gene Parker does a jazz brunch at the same hotel.
