Welcome to our SD workshop. This series is 4-8 weeks long per workshop. Class is every Wednesday night at 7:15 pm in the main room. Please allow yourself 15 min prior to class as prep time.
Purpose: The self-defense program is an integrated fighting system that has been design for men,women and children of all ages. The purpose is to understand and learn fighting methods that 1) will develop a warrior spirit; 2) provide training that will carry you from entry level to advance training; 3) develop a true martial artist, highly skilled in fighting techniques who can function appropriately in any environment.
Method: This training program is the synergy of three warrior (fighter) disciplines. Mental, character, and physical. Mental is the development of a warrior’s mindset. Character is the values, principles, and leadership. Physical is the actually fighting techniques used in everyday scenario.
Physical skills, combative and combat sports are the three aspects of this discipline. This program is a combination of many disciplines, Taekwon-Do being the base of this training. A belt achievement ranking system is in place for advancement, ranging from White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, and Black.
The term “martial” means military, and here at the International Taekwon-Do Academy we train in “reality”. Martial Arts is the art of military training, defensive tactics, and the art of fighting methods (Offense and Defense). Training at International Taekwon-Do Academy will give the individual the confidence, competence, and cohesion with fellow practitioners. This program is NOT to look for a fight, but instead to be on the defense. To be able to have the confidence to defend yourself no matter the circumstances. There is a famous quote by Mrs. Laurell K. Hamilton that we still use today, “Hesitation will get you killed”. Never doubt yourself, and just go for it. One extra second will get you hurt!
There are two factors the practitioner should know, 1) safety and 2) realism. Our goal is to train you as realistic as possible. The realism comes from fighting while fatigued, engaging multiple opponents either from the ground, stand up, or against the wall. Individual practitioners will sustain the program with their mind, body and spirit. All practitioners should eagerly view training as a safe and healthy lifestyle.
