Mythology Cafe: The Power of Myth - The First Storytellers

Join us for a screening of "The First Storytellers," Episode 3 of the timeless video series The Power of Myth.  "Bill Moyers and mythologist Joseph Campbell discuss the importance of accepting death as rebirth as in the myth of The Buffalo's wife and the story of Christ, rites of passage in primitive societies, the role of mystical Shamans and the decline of ritual in today’s society.

Campbell explains how ancient myths were designed to “put the mind in accord with the body, and the way of life in accord with the way nature dictates.”  As one example, Campbell explains how myths bring humans to understand and accept birth, growth and death." - Moyers & Company

Following the 1-hour screening, we'll break into small groups for a friendly discussion of Campbell's perspective of mythology and how we can use our understanding of it to live authentic and fulfilled lives.  Newcomers are always welcome!

As usual, meetings are free, but we would welcome small voluntary donations to be forwarded for the maintenance of the Joseph Campbell® Foundation's Mythological RoundTable® Program.

Please allow 90 minutes for this meeting.

I really enjoyed the evening and meeting Nick and Ruth & Art. Inspired to dig a lot more into what we discussed last night

Great! Nice to have times where the whole group interacts more, and other evenings (like last night) where friends (old and new) caught up by talking about the subject matter!

Fascinating film. I am going to check it out of the library because there was so much to think about and absorb, one viewing is not enough. Loved the conversation with my group, just wish we had more time to chat. A thousand thank yours to Art Luna for his generosity by giving us a space to meet!
