The January(ish) One

We’re going to kick off 2016 big-style on February 17th at the Story Museum. There will be talks, drinks, people, and tonnes of fun.

This month we’ve got Mike talking about offline web technologies, which is going to be pretty cool. And we’ve also got a community/collaborative/helpful/ supportive/lovely/nice/great show and tell session where we can share what we’ve been working on (or, what someone else has been working on, and you think is great).

No Service - Mike Elsmore

No matter where you look in technology, everything has an online component. But with the advancement of web technologies and mobile apps, offline is becoming a key characteristic. This talk covers what's necessary to make a WebApp offline, and some nifty stuff to help along the way.

Data driven rendering - Marc Tamlyn

An introduction to ReactJS, looking at how it makes interactive data driven websites easy, without taking over.

Show and Tell - Everyone

This month we’re going to have a short session where you can stand up and talk about what you’ve been working on (or, something that someone else has been working on that you think is pretty cool.)

It’s a great opportunity to find people who might be able to help, or have suggestions.

We’ll have signup details closer to the time, for now - have a think of something you’d like to share.

I really enjoyed the format of the "show and tell". Now I just need to find a project to try out React on and look into replacing all those offline localStorage get / set calls with pouchdb.

If anyone is interested for a job writing Angular or showing us what we can do with React then please drop by

Hi, I won't be able to come along tonight, will it be streamed? or recorded for later? let me know!

Ah, sorry you can't make it. It won't be streamed or recorded tonight unfortunately - the quality wasn't too great last time, we need to video capture the slides and set up better microphones. We'll try and make that happen in the future.

For those of you who haven’t been to the venue, it’s the Story Museum: - the room on the first floor, and called “The Story Exchange”.

It can be a bit awkward to find: from St Aldates, turn down Pembroke street (G&D’s on the corner). About 50m down there’s an archway on the right - walk through that and you’ll be in a courtyard. You should see a doorway on the right with some stairs, go up to the first level and we’re on the left.

Here’s an annotated map if you’re into that kind of thing:

    See you later!
