What we'll do:
We'll hike, of course! From the South of the James Farmers Market parking lot in Forest Hill Park, we'll proceed west through the Westover Hills neighborhood. After a moderate distance along Forest Hill Ave., we'll take Riverside Drive back east, passing under the iconic railroad bridge and going by stunning homes overlooking the James River. About halfway back to Westover Hills Blvd., we'll descend from Riverside Drive on a trail that weaves east along the riverbank, eventually bringing us to the western end of the Buttermilk Trail. We'll continue east the Reedy Creek parking lot, cross Riverside Dr. to Forest Hill Park, cross Reedy Creek on a one-person foot bridge with no railings, and go up a hill to find ourselves back in the Forest Hill Park parking lot. Then we'll carpool to Crossroads Coffee and Ice Cream to take in their eclectic, Friday morning music fare: "Breakfast Cabaret," which may or may not include bellydancing.
Note of caution – This hike's route goes along parts of Riverside Drive where there is very little or no shoulder to the road. On those stretches, we'll walk in single file. This hike will be at a brisk pace. Be prepared to keep up. We'll depart at 6:45 a.m. on the dot.
