• What we'll do:
We're going to hike. We'll start at the intersection of New Kent Ave. and Cedar Ln., a few blocks from the South of the James Farmers Market at Forest Hill Park. We'll go to the not-yet-open market's parking lot, descend a trail to Reedy Creek and cross Riverside Dr. to Reedy Creek Parking Lot. Then it's along the maintenance road east to the bridge over to Belle Isle. We'll go around Belle Isle, cross the Lee Bridge pedestrian bridge to Tredegar St, and then come back across the river on the T. Potterfield Memorial Bridge to connect with the Buttermilk Trail, which we'll take west back to Reedy Creek and up the hill we descended earlier, returning to the now-open, bustling farmers market. You can then return to your vehicle or join us mingling with hordes of interesting people, many of them with dogs (perhaps even dogs wearing leggings, for some unknown reason). The SOJ Farmers Market offers breakfast fare everywhere, including amazing sausage biscuits and the world-renown Mrs. Yoder's Doughnuts. And veggies galore, some of which you may have never seen before!
• What to bring - Bring plenty of water. Bring a snack, if you think you might need one before the market's tempting fare. Bring your sense of humor.
• Important to know
We will depart no later than 7:00 a.m. and earlier if everyone is present. Be early! Should someone wish to stop to photograph nature or answer its call, we'll stop. This won't be a stroll; our pace will be brisk, e.g., 2.5 or more mph. Please know your limits and be able to keep up.
