Let's get together and share our views and experiences on the Japanese culture, customs, social rules, and all the subtle manners that you are supposed to know, and discuss how and why things work differently here from the rest of the world.
This is a group for anyone, including those who are new to Japan and experts who have lived for decades or grown up in Japan thinking how "unique" Japan is (or isn't).
Our goal includes: (1) deepening our understanding of Japan and its people through our intellectual discussions, and (2) improving our overall quality of life in Japan by applying the knowledge gained from the discussions in our everyday settings.
You can live in another culture all your life and you will never completely understand it, but you will come to understand your own. -Edward T. Hall, Cultural anthropologist.
... but perhaps we could try to understand what we don't understand about another culture.
