This week, we're making a little trip to Maple Leaf, just a bit north of Roosevelt and south of Northgate, to one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city.
We'll order food to share. They have a super-nifty vegetarian menu, so I'll order some yuba-wrapped enoki, a nice tofu and beggar's purse soup, some eggplant with fried basil, and maybe some leek steamed dumplings. Then we'll get some xiaolongbao, and maybe some tea smoked duck or Peking duck, along with a seafood dish or two. We may get that crazy fried chicken dish with tons of Japanese chilies. If any Taiwanese people come we'll order a plate of stinky tofu. I think you'll dig it.
Pricing is usually pretty reasonable; it's usually $18-23/person for a little too much food. Please bring cash. They have tea, beer and not much else to drink; as usual, we'll tally beer separately.
There's parking on site, plus reasonably decent bus access with routes 66, 72 or 73. If you're adventurous you can take route 16 and walk a bit. If the parking lot fills up there's usually plenty of space in residential areas nearby.
Nijikai will probably be at Cooper's Ale House, but could be at the Hudson or similar spot nearby, depending on how oshare people are feeling.
If you think you may need a lift home, let me know ahead of time and I'll try to match you up with someone going your way.
