Are you a long-time fan, just getting into it or somewhere in between?

I've been listening to jazz since I started playing music back in elementary school. I think the first jazz record that I bought was the Miles Davis two-fer, Workin' and Steamin'. Was absolutely amazed with what I heard. I guess it was a good place to start: muted Miles and the gang... can't go wrong. Although my playing has been kind of a start-stop affair (what with work, family, etc.), I am still continually inspired by music and the endless potential for expression and invention.

What are your favorite venues for listening to the music?

My old stand-by is Jimmy Mak's. I'm fairly regular on the Tuesday and Thursday shows. I used to love the Cave when Alan Jones had that place running. Miss it. There are so many odds and ends places popping up with live music, that I haven't been able to keep track of it all. That's a good thing. My least favorite venue, I have to say, is the concert hall. I find it difficult to really enjoy the music in those cramped seats where you really can't tap your feet to the music without stepping on someone else...

(Optional, just curious) Do you currently, or did you at one time, play any instruments?

I've played piano and trumpet in the past. Currently, I'm practicing, as time permits, so that I could one day call myself a sax player, ... or a musician :-)

Introduction

Looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends (and hanging with old ones as well) through our shared interest in the music.
