Philosophy, from Greek φιλοσοφία, philosophia, literally "love of wisdom", is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. The term was probably coined by Pythagoras (c. 570 – c. 495 BC). - Wikipedia
Let's have Jewlosophical discussions about a topics of interest from a contemporary and Jewish perspective. That's philosophy with a Jewish twist!
This group is open to members of all ages and stages in life. You will enjoy vigorous discussion about various topics that will challenge your thinking and your life and leave you pondering long after the discussion has ended. You will have the opportunity to feel a sense of community, belonging and togetherness.
When the group stated, we used the weekly writings of Rabbi Dr. Nathan Lopez Cardozo. Rabbi Cardoza writes emails, on a topic, from a Jewish and contemporary philosophical perspective. His emails end with "thoughts to ponder". At each meetup we were inspired by one of his emails and 'pondered' on the answers to his questions.
We now use the writings of Sydney's own Rabbi Michoel Gourarie from Bina. He writes weekly emails that are easy to read and filled with depth, starting from a Jewish perspective and then including modern psychological and philosophical concepts, ideas and thoughts. These emails inspire the topic for the months discussion and the 'points to ponder' that are used to guide our discussion.
This is an opportunity for you to share your very own philosophical insights, Jewish or contemporary, on a topic with the group.
We'll meet once a month, in Bondi Junction, on a Sunday evening. Details are provided to members. The group is limited to 50 memebers.
