We are offering a chartered river adventure on the John Day River in the John Day Wilderness Area of Central Oregon. These expeditions will Be 3-5 day and 10 day Expeditions We Provide pick up at the airport if needed and will transport you to our staging area where you will be briefed on any last minute details about the trip by 2 guides We will go over gear and equipment that we provide and that you are required to bring. The weekend warrior trip for example hits the river on a Friday of the week selected and returns on the following Monday

The North fork John Day Wilderness area putting in at Dale or Monument Depending on flows traveling through tall pines and incredible geologic formations in a forested setting that gradually changes to a desert environment 35 river miles from launch with abundant wildlife like bear deer mountain lion big horn sheep and a variety of wild birds eagle falcons hawks to name a few.
Expect class 2 and 3 rapids depending on current flows at the time with April May and June being premium flow times and a bit more radical in early June when the blue mountains snow pack begins to run the tributaries
The John Day River is the 3rd longest natural flowing wild river in the United States no dam or man made obstructions and as a consequence the river has a lot of personality with flows that can change completely in just a matter of hours pretty exciting stuff
We will cover wilderness and invasive species permits however if you intend to fish you will be provided the chance to buy a Oregon State fish license on way to the launch area.
The Desert run offers a expansive wilderness covered in oceans of wildflowers and wildlife some being wild horses and bighorn sheep racoons and water fowl set in a colorful expansive open desert country of vistas and extreme sunsets
Explore box canyons the fossil beds and ancient wall and cave art paintings many thousands of years old amongst the beautiful Painted Hills a ancient place long revered by the local tribes. This wilderness can be a spiritual experience and a journey back in time great for the hiking and exploring the ancient sites with great fishing and bird watching The dry environment brings in all sorts of wildlife to the river so expect to see alot of animal activity
The full Desert run puts in at Service Creek and puts out at Cottonwood is approx. 117 river miles. passing through the Russo, Clarno and Basalt Rapids for some whitewater fun and takes 6 days minimum,
The shorter run Service Creek to Clarno is 47 miles and easily done in the weekend warrior trip as is the North Fork run Dale to Service Creek
Both weekend Trips average close to 50 river miles depending on flows total cost 1500.00 for 2 persons

A list of items needed will be provided early prior to departure and should not exceed 50 pounds max per person. and we will need sizing to properly fit you a life vest
