We'll be working on improving part of this 30-mile trail.  Bring a lunch, water, and bow saws or loppers if you have them (we do have extra).

Our plans are now to meet at the Old Military Hiking Trail Access on the west side of Ferguson Road just south of the bridge over Little Slough Creek.  There will also be a carpool location for those coming from the Kansas City area.

For details contact Steve Hassler at [masked] or[masked]-3296.  Directions and other details can be found at http://files.meetup.com/3966802/PERRY%20Nov%202013.pdf.

During the sign-in process all participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. If you w ould like to read the Liability Waiver before you choose to participate in an outing, please go to: http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/ .

We had a slow start today, but we still got quite a bit done. The sections we cleaned up look good. Everyone worked hard today, and it was a nice way to spend the day with nice people.

We, The Kansas City Adventure Club, did a hike along Section 1 a couple of weeks ago and there is a lot of overgrowth in that section. Most of the area that is in the open field has very tall weeds for more than a mile.

Also Longview, in the disc golf area, is very poorly marked and has been since they started the construction on it. Is there anyway we can get this marked better through this area? We, The Kansas City Adventure Club, attempted to do a hike from Longview North, but the hike leader couldn't find her way through the golf course. Mile marker 6 is behind a tree and should be relocated. I have hiked through this area for the past year and a half and last month is the first time I saw it.

Thought you might like to know what we have found.

I live in the area and if time allows I will assist with this maintenance.

Tim, I already forwarded this to David Brackey.

Tim, Dave, Kevin & I are at Longview reblazing right now. We'll have to talm to the Corps of Engineers about this: whoever put in the disc golf course totally obliterated all the trail markings.

It's nice to see this many people signed-up! Taking care of the trails is a great way to give back to the community. At the end of the day I hope you feel like you've done something useful and will want to do it again.

I'd love to come help out, but I need to be in Overland Park by 4:00. Would it be a problem if I left about a half hour early?

    November 7, 2013

    • Steve H.

Leaving early is no problem. I'll just make sure you're working within hiking distance of where you're vehicle is parked.

Thanks, Steve. I may have a plumber at my house Saturday morning. I'll probably know by this afternoon. I'll RSVP when I know for sure.
