Women's Backpacking on the Pigeon Roost Trail

  • Note: please have prior backpacking experience or have taken a backpacking class before signing up for this trip. I will be screening participants to ensure that everyone's training and fitness level are adequate. This is not only for your safety, but your happiness as well!

A perennial favorite! This will be a moderate hike on the Pigeon Roost Trail, a scenic 8.5 mile loop on the south shore of Beaver Lake near Rogers, Arkansas (about 4 hours from KC). Some ascents & descents but no scrambling or real ruggedness. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Those who wish to carpool/caravan: we'll meet promptly at 8:00 AM at the commuter parking lot in Peculiar, MO (Highway 71, exit 167 - by the Flying J truck stop.)

From the trail head we will hike about 4.5 miles to the designated backcountry campsites. On Sunday we'll hike out and have lunch at nearby War Eagle Mill before heading back to KC.

Renee, My granddaughter decided she doesn't want to go so I took myself off the list. Looks like another is ready to take my place. Have fun.

Does anyone have any guidance as far as what gear would be required to have for this trip? As I mentioned, I will be taking the Beginning Backpacking Class, but I was just curious if there was a basics list or just any recommendations. Thanks!

      Hi Jo, here's a link to REI's checklist, it's a good reference. https://www.rei.com/co...

If you're taking the Beginning BP class, you should be able to arrange for gear lending with the class leaders (tent, pack, etc) or message me and we'll figure out some stuff. We can share other things like stoves and water filtration so don't worry about those if you don't have them yet.

I would like to bring a grand daughter, like last time. Need to check their schedule.

Sounds good! I heard she did a great job on the last trip.
