Needs a location
We'll spend 3 nights on the OHT in a remote, rugged, and scenic part of Arkansas backpacking between the Ozone campground and the Big Piney trail head. Participation will be limited to about 8 people. Get on the waiting list here (preferably) or by email to [masked]. Once you're approved, I'll move you to the YES list.
Outings like this are one way our local Sierra Club group raises money to fund operations. A donation of $10 would be gratefully accepted.
The spring turkey hunting season opens this weekend so having some blaze orange clothing would be a good idea. The Lyrid meteor shower peaks this weekend as well. I haven't been on this section of the OHT before. Total hiking distance will be about 20 miles. Trail elevation ranges from 1000 to 2000 feet with several wet creek crossings.

We'll rendezvous just south of KC Thursday morning, form car pools, and hit the road by 8:00. I have driving maps & directions for the drivers. We'll have a quick food (Firehouse Subs) and fuel stop in Fayetteville about noon. We should arrive at Ozone trail head around 2PM, drop the Big Piney shuttle vehicle, and be on the trail by 4:30PM. Hike west to east - Ozone to Big Piney - MM 85.7 to 105.5. Camp #1 will be around MM 89, camp #2 around MM 96, and camp #3 around MM 103. It is likely that none of the camps will be at established sites. On Sunday we'll hike out with a sight-seeing stop at Haw Creek Falls. It might be 1-1:30 PM before we are able to retrieve the vehicle from Ozone and head for home so have a snack. Driving time will be about 5.5 hours. We can make a short late afternoon dinner stop in Harrison or Springfield if desired. Food: Bring dinner for Thur, food for all day Fri & Sat, breakfast & lunch/snack for Sun. Trail snacks.
Water: Bring at least 3L. We'll be following Little Piney & Gee creeks so in general water should be plentiful, but quantities in the upper parts of Little Piney where we begin are unknown.
As usual, we'll Leave No Trace (and that means a lot more than just carrying out our trash)
Don't have all the gear for a backpacking trip? No problem, we have some available for loan (http://missouri.sierraclub.org/thb/outings/ELL/index.html) to Sierra Club members for use on this outing.
During the sign-in process all participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. If you would like to read the Liability Waiver before you choose to participate in an outing, please go to: http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/ .
