With a lifetime of experience and fine-tuning, D. (Daryl) Rashaan Gilmore has been an ambitious businessman from the time of his youth when he started his first successful enterprise, a bakery, as a teen. Since then, he has managed and sold several companies, worked at high levels in both the political and business arenas, built an impressive network of power players in Kansas City and the Midwest, and established a reputation as an effective manager and communicator, consensus builder and visionary entrepreneur. Gilmore has served as project manager for Project I Am, a multiyear $1.6 million CDC (Centers for Disease Control) direct grant to the Kansas City CARE Clinic, where he led the program to unprecedented levels of achievement and impact. Signature accomplishments include the groundbreaking photo–voice exhibition, Visual AIDS: Positive Images of Positive Men (an HIV/AIDS educational awareness and stigma reduction campaign) and an innovative mobile app that provides on-demand and up-to-date information on HIV testing and related services.
