Hike the streets of Louisville

This will be a new hike for us, taking in some of the interesting landmarks of downtown Louisville. Jane Fender will start the hike at Waterfront Park and will take hikers past the Thomas-Edison House, NuLu,  the Filson Historical Club, St. James Court, Central Park, 4th Street Live, the Cathedral of the Assumption, Brennan House,  Museum Row and Louisville Slugger Field.  This will be an easy level hike approximately 8 miles in length.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I am glad everyone enjoyed the hike. It was fun for me researching the history then walking the streets and trying to image what it was like in the late 1800's.

Thanks Jane! I really enjoyed the tour of all places I should have visited long ago, but never did.

This was a great hike, Jane! Thank you so much for hosting! Sorry I had to bail out early but I had to be in east Louisville. Really enjoying these 'close to town' get togethers! Thanks, again.

Enjoyed the walk today, and the camaraderie, especially down 3rd St. to Old Louisville, Belgravia & St. James Courts, Central Park. Amazed I made it for the entire 8-9 miles! Had to skip lunch this time though. Thanks Jane!

Jane, I wish I could go on this but I haven't seen my sonny boy in a long time and will be going up to Indianapolis for Father's Day. I hope we can do it again sometime, and I thank you for organizing this. Have a great time!

For anyone hesitating about their RSVP, thinking they won't "go the distance": on a hike/walk like this, close to home, in familiar territory, it's easy to cut it short, make your way back to your car; there will most likely be a few others that want to do the same.

An option would be to hike to Central Park, which is about half way, then catch a TARC bus on Fourth and ride it to Main. They run approximately every 1/2 hour on Sunday. The fare is $1.75.

Are we meeting for lunch after? I like to eat after exercise and enjoy the fellowship.

Can't make this one, but am loving all of the new "urban" hikes being offered; great idea.

We normally plan for 2 miles per hour so we should finish about one.

I may have to reconsider, as I have to be at my job at 1. How many hrs. do you think this will take to cover the aforementioned areas? Thanks.

  • Lisa R.

Looking forward to revisiting these areas after many years. Great idea for a hike/walk!
