A group of about 30 Singaporeans has asked us to bring them to Gunung Nuang.
I'm looking for maximum 4 hikers who are willing to join me to be sure that our Singaporean fellow-hikers will have a nice and safe hike. If you have aspirations of co-organising and taking responsibilities during hikes in the near future, this will be an ideal training ground. If you RSVP yes, you will commit yourself to be there for the group, as part of a leading team. You don't have to be an experienced hiker, but physical fitness is a prerequisite.
If you cannot make it for this hike, but you are interested in being part of a dynamic "leadership" team, please send me an e-mail...
For this hike, which is by no means an easy hike, I have decided to approach Gunung Nuang from the Northwest. Our trail starts in Janda Baik, which is located 280m/918ft higher than Hulu Langat/Kg Kuala Pansoon (where the trail from the South starts).
IMPORTANT: When you confirm your participation you will be asked for 1- your mobile phone number and e-mail address 2- your location (eg USJ 11) 3- whether you need transport 4- whether you, as a driver, are willing to participate in the carpooling and how many people can travel along with you 5- your own perceived hiking level (beginner, less-experienced, medium, experienced) as this will aid us organising a safe hike.
Those who participated in earlier hikes and have given the information requested sub 1 and 2 can ignore the first two questions, but still need to answer the next three questions.
It would be nice if you could change the hometown in your profile to the location of your residence (eg USJ 11, Damansara Perdana, SS 7, Sentul, Seksyen 5 Shah Alam, Bandar Puteri Puchong, Ampang, etc...). This will make carpooling efforts much easier.
Besides the classical hiking tips, please note the following:
wear shoes with profile (a pattern on the soles to prevent slipping and gliding)
rain gear is recommended
we have to cross 2 streams (one way) of max one foot deep
a pair of gloves doesn't weigh that much (thorns, roots, trees, mud)
bring enough drinks and snacks (carbohydrates). For this trip isotonic drinks are not a luxury. Dried fruits are preferred over chocolate... Proper nutrition will be a key to your success!
leech protection is advisable
a refreshing waterfall shower might be on the programme...
please be responsible and don't litter – be sure not to leave any rubbish along the track and on the top
