What we're about

Our meetup will be a series of free workshops using Playback Theater and Theater of the Oppressed modalities. Participants will explore personal stories while learning dramatic forms and working as an ensemble. In Spring of 2019 we will running 4 performances in the Excelsior/Outer Mission to highlight resident stories and better integrate them into local land use decision making. No prior theater experience necessary to join. Bilingual English, Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog or other languages encouraged to apply. Residents, staff of community serving organizations and city planning/transportation/land use staff also encouraged to apply.

Excelsior Works!

Our meetup/rehearsals will include movement and vocal warmups, facilitated group theater activities and story telling. During rehearsals we will be exploring our own stories as a way to prepare for working with audience member stories at performances. A willingness to explore the unknown, awareness of self and interest in building empathy will be drawn upon in our ensemble building. Our rehearsals will be held at Excelsior Works on Sunday mornings from 10:00am-1:00pm. Come in comfortable clothes you can easily move in. There will be light snacks (gluten free) however feel free to bring your own food if needed. Excelsior Works! is .6 miles from the Balboa Park BART station, and right on the 14 MUNI bus line. There is street parking and bikes can come inside the space.
