Winter Solstice Kayak - Frog Creek

I've put in and paddled Frog Creek many different times and at different locations. It really is a nice, easy paddle that gets you into quiet spots among the wildlife of mangrove waters. After checking it out again last week-end, we decided to post this paddle.

There are a couple of places to launch, but Frog Creek RV Resort offers safe parking off of the highway. For a larger group, we decided this is the way to go. Plus, we can check out the resort for a springtime week-end kayak/camp/bike ride.

Launch fees are $10/kayak. If we have more than 10 yakkers, then it's $7/kayak. They also have kayaks to rent at $15/hour. Perhaps members who also rent kayaks and are coming can provide that option. We'll see where the discussion leads us.

Let's plan to meet at 9:30, and we'll launch by 10:00. Pack lunch, drinks, your kayak gear, and an attitude for embracing our winter season.

Here is a link to the Frog Creek RV Park Campground: http://www.frogcreekrv.com/ If you click on "Kayaking" you'll see a trail map. Rather than having them pick us up, there's a sand bar where we can pull off and have lunch, then paddle back. It's a very mellow river, so it will be an easy paddle.

Okay, looking forward to it! Ann and Ed

Yes, it was Nona. I looked at the map again, and it shows the take out AFTER going through, what I will call the "chute." Jeesh. Definitely an adventure. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Fabulous day and great group of people. It was rough going over a strong current and oyster shells under the I-275 bridge.

Okay, folks. Really looking forward to tomorow. It will be a great day to be on the water with a really good fellowship of yakkers. Thanks to all for updating your rsvp's. For those who couldn't make it, we'll be planning another trip in April to include camping and maybe a bike ride around Terra Ceia Island. Manana!

Hey linda - thanks so much for the info. I think you convinced me to rent and then decide. Can't wait to get started. All the best to you and the group.
    Warm regards,
    Evan

God I want to get heavily involved in kayaking but not sure how to start. I just moved here from New York and know this is definitely a new endeavor. I don't know to get a top or sit inside kayak or any of the integral particulars. I just know this type of exercise and communing with the water is for me. I don't want to make the wrong mistake. A few nice people have reached out here and it was greatly appreciated. My e mail is [masked] and thanks for any and all help.

I rented for almost a year before buying my first kayak which helped me decide. It's a very personal decision. and it depends on what type of kayaking you want to do. I learned that I'm happy just being a recreational kayaker. I enjoy the rivers and streams because of the beautiful scenery which can also be challenging when dealing with currents and winding waterways but also relaxing. If the waterway is narrow and you have a long kayak, turning around can be something to consider but longer kayaks with rudders get you where you want to go faster if that is important to you.

I hate to cancel because I just got on the list but mom called and she is sick of the cold and coming to Florida for holidays so I have to cancel.

We just opened a 10:00 launch time new post for those who are on the waitlist and for those who might be interested but the 9:30 launch time had such a long wait list. Looking forward to seeing everyone and yakking on Frog Creek!

Wow! That's great to see the interest for kayaking Frog Creek. We're thinking of making two different start times: one at 9:30 and another at 10:00 for those on the Wait List. Will call Frog Creek management and make sure that's okay before we do another post. Stay tuned!

When I signed up, i tried to add my wife as a plus 1, but it would not give me the option even though there were five openings left at that time. She is now on the wait list. Help Please

I have an inflateable Sea Eagle kayak for sale used twice. If interested let me know.

Hey Vicki. The meet up discussion site is a good place to post your kayak for sale. And I wouldn't recommend an inflatable for this trip. Shallow water, oyster beds. Saw a big gator there last week.

Sounds like fun. An easy paddle appeals to me.
