What we’re about

Welcome to Kayak Explorers and More!

What we're about

Kayak Explorers and More is a Meetup group on the west coast of Florida. We host a variety of Events for our members ranging from paddling and biking to hiking and more. Our members are mainly residents of Sarasota and Manatee Counties, but everyone is welcome to join.

Annual dues

All members pay an annual $10 dues.  Dues help pay for the Meetup fee, parties, rental fees of different venues, food, and supplies. Once you’re accepted as a member, your dues are due.  How to pay dues will be in your “Welcome” email. Dues must be paid and current to participate in Events.

Members must include a recognizable profile picture of themselves. Couples MUST join as individuals through individual profiles.  It just becomes problematic otherwise.

Events
BEFORE signing up for an Event, READ THE EVENT DESCRIPTION.

Host/organizers are not your caretaker, you are responsible for yourself.

Hosts/organizers of paddles list the appropriate skill level in event descriptions. If you are unsure about your skill level or your watercraft for paddling, contact the Event  host/organizer.  Each participant on a paddle must have a seaworthy boat, a Coast Guard approved PFD, a whistle, and a white light for night paddles.

Hiking and biking events are NOT suitable for all fitness levels. Please read the Event descriptions for distances, speed and potential requirements. Each participant on a bike ride must have a roadworthy bicycle.

Each participant on a paddle, bike ride, or hike must carry a sufficient amount of water. Dehydration is a serious risk in Florida.

PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED on any of the Events unless members receive permission from the respective Event host/organizer.
NO GUESTS OR PLUS 1’s on paddles, bike rides, or hikes.

Please be supportive of hosts/organizers. We are all volunteers. If you have any questions or concerns, message the host/organizer or post a comment on the Event page. Meanwhile, let them lead, stay with the group, be a team player, on time, cooperative and enjoy.

We hope to see you on one of our next events!

No-show policy

Last minute issues come up that can prevent someone from attending an event once they RSVP. Please inform your host of any changes. This will allow those on waiting lists to participate.

Hosts are also committed to starting the event on time. No shows and late arrivals can hold up the whole group.

Anyone who RSVPs and fails to show up  or is late to the beginning time of the Event without changing their status or notifying the host three times will be removed from membership.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION

The Kayak Explorers and More Organizers and/or Event Hosts/Organizers are not trained, professional guides.  All Events are organized by volunteers and participated in by volunteers.  By attending an Event, I do hereby confirm that I have read in its entirety the WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABIITY AND INDEMNIFICATION for Kayak Explorers and More below and agree to the following per 668.50 Florida Uniform Electronic Transaction Act:

It is recommended that all participants have the proper safety equipment for the Event specified in the Event description.  By electing not to have this equipment, I agree to assume all and any personal liability for myself.

I understand the nature of paddle sports, biking and hiking and have not been advised by a qualified, medical, professional and/or licensed M.D., to NOT participate in such activities listed above.  I am qualified, in good health, in proper physical condition to participate in Events that I sign up for that involve such activities and willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and conditions of participation.  I further agree and warrant that if at any time I decide to leave the group at an Event, I assume all risks associated with that decision.

I acknowledge that (a) paddle sports, biking and hiking involve risks and dangers of damage to personal property and serious bodily injury, including permanent disability, paralysis, and death (“risks”); (b) these risks and dangers may be caused by my own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Event/activity, the condition in which the Event/activity takes place, or the negligence of the “releases” named below;  (c) there may be other risks and social and economic losses either not known to me or not readily foreseeable at the time of the Event; and I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I incur as a result of my participation.
I knowing and freely assume all risk, both known and unknown, even those arising for the negligent acts or omissions of others and assume full responsibility for my participation, and, I, on behalf of myself, my personal representatives and my heirs, hereby release, discharge, and covenant not to sue Kayak Explorer and More members, event hosts/organizers, other participants or Organizers (each considered one of the "releasees" herein) from all liability, claims, demands, losses, injuries, damage to property, or other damages on my account caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the "releasees" or otherwise, including negligent rescue operations; and I further agree that if, despite this release and waiver of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnity agreement I, or anyone on my behalf, makes a claim against any of the releasees, I will indemnify, save, and hold harmless each of the releasees from any litigation expenses, attorney fees, loss, liability, damage, or cost which any may incur as the result of such claim.

Kayak Explorers and More and its Organizers and Event Hosts/Organizers do not, in any way, claim to be professionals or otherwise licensed, certified, trained, etc. to provide any service including emergency medical procedures. Since many Kayak Explorers and More Events occur on the water or in remote areas on land, by participating in a Kayak Explorers and More Event you are acknowledging that you are aware and understand that in the event of a serious medical emergency, treatment may be multiple hours away. I consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident and /or illness during Events that I am participating in.  Refer to Florida Good Samaritan Act

I have read, understand, and agree to abide by the description for Events and the rules as published on the Kayak Explorers and More homepage, “What we’re about” description and text. I also understand that at an Event, I may be photographed. I agree to allow my name and/or likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose as determined by Kayak Explorers and  More.

By participating in a Kayak Explorers and More Event, I Agree to WAIVE, DISCHARGE CLAIMS, AND RELEASE FROM LIABILITY Meetup.com, the Kayak Explorers and More Meetup Group, its Organizers, Event Hosts/Organizers, Members, as well as their families from any and all liability on account of, or in any way resulting from injuries, personal or property, losses, costs, damages, disability or death resulting from participating in or traveling to or from the activity. It is further understood and agreed that this WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION is to be binding on my heirs and assigns. This WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNIFICATION shall be construed broadly, applied to the maximum extent permissible by law, and binding as long as I am a member of Kayak Explorers and More.
I HAVE READ THIS RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT, FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS TERMS, UNDERSTAND THAT I RELEASE KAYAK EXPLORERS AND MORE FROM LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR WRONGFUL DEATH CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER CAUSE.
