Paddle Follins Pond into Mill Pond, Yarmouth

We paddled Follins Pond twice last year and were able to get through the pictured culvert into Mill Pond. Follins Pond is lined with houses.  Mill Pond is beautiful...almost no houses and there looked like a couple of places where we might be able to get out..might.

To get through the culvert, there has to be no flow against allow you to move your boat with your hands on the ceiling and sides of the culvert.  So, the timing for our going in BOTH directions through the culvert is critical. Our usual 10:00 AM launch today should do it. If we miss the perfect time to get through the culvert in the water, it is a super easy portage over the road...but  why walk, if we can stay in the water ?!?

There is a public launch at the end of Follins Pond Rd, into Follins Pond in Dennis, off Mayfair Rd, that we used once for this paddle.  Today's launch will be from the end of Follins Pond Rd., off of Setucket Rd. in Yarmouth, which we used last September; it's a good launch, with a sandy area next to the paved motor boat ramp.

In a GPS or mapping program, be careful to enter FOLLINS POND RD, YARMOUTH.

DIRECTIONS TO THE YARMOUTH LOCATION:  From Rt 6, take Ex 8. Go south on Station Ave a few hundred feet to the stop light. Go left onto Whites Path; drive 1.5mile. Take left at the stop sign onto N.Main which becomes N.Dennis Rd and go 1.8 mile to the first stop sign at a wide open intersection. Go right onto Setucket and drive about 940 feet, passing  Aunt Dora's and Uncle Jimmy's. Take right on Follins Pond Rd to the end. No parking signs are posted for various sides of the road at different places. We are launching on a Saturday, so we may be competing with boat trailers parked. Leave your car in the most off road, protected place you can find because there is little room there for boat trailers to turn around, back down to the ramp and then park.

Best possible group. Super weather and we sailed through the culvert. Good lunch at Ardeo's after.

Beautiful! Bright and sunny skies, easy put in, fun gliding through the underpass... just perfect all around!

i'm thinking the water may still be too cold for a self rescue practice... i prefer small ponds for that stuff.

If the weather is warm would anyone be interested in practicing self rescue and assisted rescue before or after the paddle?
