What we're about

Paddles are on the beautiful rivers and creeks of Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties and will be about 7 miles long and last about 1 - 1.5 hours. Walks are in scenic areas of the Venice, Nokomis, Sarasota and Osprey area and won't be over 2 miles...and will always be for you and your best canine friend.

Paddles and walks are scheduled from October through April. I paddle on Cape Cod from May through September.

Paddles try to provide aerobic exercise and, therefore, are for experienced, energetic paddlers who want to, and are able to, keep up a good rate of speed. Because of that, the group does not wait for folks along the way....and we want no one going back to the launch alone. This is not a place to get experience on the water. You need to have that experience before paddling with us. Adults only.

You are encouraged to join the group if you only want to go on the walks...and you certainly don't have to have a dog.

We'll try to take a short break in the paddle, if the terrain allows. On most trips, you'll see no attempt to paddle with the current....the only concern is that we'll have enough water all the way out and back.

If strong wind or rain is forecast the evening before an event, I'll email everyone who RSVP'd to give updates on the event.

If fewer than 4 people RSVP for a paddle and I don't yet know you, you will need to phone me the morning of the paddle before I start loading up my boat.

You can change a "yes" RSVP to "not going" at any time, but two "no shows" and you are automatically dropped from the group.

Everyone who applies to join the group must read the waiver below and WRITE that you have read the waiver and agree with the waiver when answering the profile questions. A waiver agreed to by one person can not legally cover another person. Therefore, there are can be no guests on paddles. Guests are always welcome on walks. Each family member, each partner, each friend is going to have to join him or herself...and agree to the waiver before they join the group. Thanks.

Tues., Nov. 2 - WALK Oscar Scherer State Park, Osprey BRING YOUR DOG

Oscar Scherer State Park

Let's walk the Green Trail in Oscar Scherer State Park, if you want a wide open trail. Or we could take the Green to the Orange Trail, if you want a narrow, scenic trail, mainly through a wooded area. Your choice. Bring your binoculars, if you want.

There is an entry fee to the park ($4/person or $6 for a carload). There is only one main road in the park that goes straight from the entry gate to the rear parking lot. PASS the turn off for the campground. On the right, turn into the parking area at the sign that says "Lake Osprey Picnic Area" with the Nature Center "behind" parking lot. I'll be out of my car, walking a black German Shepherd.

There are rest rooms in the building down the sidewalk, to the left of the Nature Center.

We'll leave the parking lot at 9:00. Guests are always welcome on walks...no need to bring a dog to join us, but dogs are more than welcome. There needs to be a couple of reliable people to sign up for this walk to happen.

I am on Cape Cod and plan to arrive in FL on Oct.29.
