From "A Boaters Guide to Federal Requirements for Recreational Boats" page 29
"A vessel under oars shall have ready an electric torch (flashlight) or lighted lantern showing a white light that shall be exhibited in sufficient time to prevent collision."
I use a cap light on the brim of a hat and turn it on when a boat approaches. They are available at Walmart in the sporting goods section or Bass Pro. Others use a deck mounted light.

Thanks George. Was wondering if a head lamp used for hiking would work too?

Cannot attend this time, but as I'm new to this, what type of light do you use?
