Grandview Nature Preserve

We’ll launch from the public ramp at the end of Dandy Point Rd in Hampton and paddle through the peaceful Grandview Nature Preserve.  Our route will take us through well protected creeks from Dandy Pt to the Chesapeake Bay at Salt Ponds and back.  The round trip should be just less than 8 miles.  There’s a nicely protected beach at Salt Ponds with a beautiful view of the Bay that’s a great place to stretch.

Please be ready to launch at 8:30 due to the tide.  This means you’ll need to arrive at the ramp early enough to get your boat and gear to the water.  Like all meet ups, a life jacket (PFD) must be worn.

The tide is high at 7:34am, low at 1:51pm. The water temperature will be cool, in the upper 50’s.

I'll check the weather about 9pm Friday and post any changes.

Really fun paddle with great people. The wind and the waves presented a challenge, but it was well worth the effort to see new sights and meet new paddlers.

I enjoyed the paddle, even if the wind and waves gave me more of a challenge than I bargained for. Great workout! Thanks everyone, for making me feel so welcome on my first outing with this group. Looking forward to the next one. I got some good photos and will post them.

A gusty NW wind made it a bit rough for our paddling from Dandy Point Marina on Back River to the entrance to Long Creek/Grunland Creek, but once there, we had smooth paddling south to the cut that goes out into the bay at Salt Ponds. We had a short break on the beach on the inside of the cut, and then set out back to the Dandy Point Marina via Long Creek/Grunland Creek.

Looking forward to meeting y'all. Had a great 7-mile paddle 2 weeks ago at Back Bay Wildlife Preserve in Sandbridge, so I've already caught the kayaking bug for the season!
