HRK Rules and RegulationsThis is an adult organization (18 years old or older) of paddlers from beginners to advanced. You should join if you are looking to paddle with like minded people who enjoy paddling the creeks, rivers, bays, and oceans. Currently due to the type of paddles being posted you will get the most out of this group if you are a Sea Kayaker or a potential Sea Kayaker that can go on some of the less challenging trips in protected waters. Events may include other activities such as hiking, biking, camping, movies and the like.
If you join our group a profile picture is required that will allow other paddlers to recognize you. You can use your first name only but including the initial of your last name is recommended. Most of us like to take pictures and post them so if you join be advised that you can not expect privacy and your permission to post your picture is assumed. You can always ask the person who posted your picture to remove it.
You need to read the HRK Rules or Regulations now or in the near future before you sign up for an event:
But most important
- Take advantage of local training opportunities and group paddles to improve your skills. Kayak Symposiums and Paddle Fest are an excellent way to improve your skills and socialize with other like minded paddlers.
- Be an active member:
* RSVP for events.
* Participate in the message boards.
*Host Events - If your not an Event Organizer you can Host an Event by using the Suggest Tab on the home page. With two more RSVP's for your suggested event it will active. If it is a short fuse event you can ask an Event Organizer to make it active for you if it passes the common sense test.
- Be safe:
* Always wear a PFD
* Honestly rate you current kayaking level and don't push your self too much over what you feel comfortable doing. In open water paddling the environment can change very quickly with high winds and waves that you have never encountered before so be particularly careful and be considerate for others when you RSVP for an open water trip.
