Secret LIRR Suprise Exploration

We meet at the Kew Gardens Rail Road station(Near Lefferts Blvd and Austin Street) on the Manhattan bound side at 10:30. At 10:50 I will describe the itinerary. Shortly after we Start the adventure.

We need to buy tickets from the Kiosks and then walk over the Lefferts Blvd Bridge to the Long Island bound platform.

The tickets are close to, but less than $20 round trip.

I have done some limited research on a destination that looks like a great get away. Nature, Hiking, Dining all exist. I enjoy exploration more than planning and this place looks like a good choice for this type of thing.

It is less than a 40 minute ride.

I expect to be back in Kew Gardens by 4:30 PM. No promise if we start having too much fun though!

I just posted some pictures from last Saturday's surprise walk. I think it was a nice day and a fun idea. I hope we do it again sometime.

Hope everyone had a good time. Was the hike long enough? We should do it again in the fall when the leaves change. I will check out the lake on the South side of Sunrise Hjghway,on the Other side of the LIRR. I think the Path is mostly paved. Also will check out a walk in Seaford(one more train stop ) Tackapusha Preserve .

I liked the distance but the pace was too slow. Now that we know our way we could go a little faster. I enjoyed the location. Also lets hit a restaurant next time. If any one knows of more LIRR stops with places to explore let us know.

Marlene and Nicole...good questions. I changed the description to make it more clear. We meet on the Manhattan bound side to buy tickets. Then we cross over the tracks using Lefferts to take the train toward Long Island.
