Coaching: Where do ‘I’ fit in?...
Coaching: Where do ‘I’ fit in?... We know that coaching is all about the coachee and that, as coaches, it is important to avoid judgement, refrain from giving advice and keep our own issues out of the coaching conversation. But is it really that straightforward? Are there not times when it is ok to bring something of ourselves into the coaching relationship? Our experience in life and as a coach gives us a wealth of understanding that we use to make sure the coaching relationship and process work to the best effect. We use our awareness of self, the coachee and the immediate environment to reduce distractions and improve the quality of our coaching. How far does that extend? How much of our experience and understanding do we use to inform the coaching process? If part of the magic of coaching is modelling a ‘Way of Being’, how much of that is at a conscious level or a deliberate means to enable an impact for the coachee? During this evening, we will explore how we have and do use ourselves in our coaching and consider how much it is ok to do so.
