Kino Kiwi is an open filmmaking group launched in 2018 but with its organiser leaving New Zealand shortly after the Kino Kiwi promo video, assets and concept are waiting to be picked up by another event organiser and/or filmmaker. Kino Kiwi is a non-competitive and open platform for both experienced filmmakers and those just finding their feet as storytellers. Kino Kiwi is part of the worldwide Kino Movement (http://www.planetekino.com/) that started in Canada in 1999 and is now active in more than 60 cities in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and in Australia in Sydney and Melbourne. The binding philosophy is the belief in filmmaking with minimum resources, in an inclusive, collaborative environment.
“Do well with nothing, do better with little, and do it now!”
Kino Kiwi should have a monthly or bimonthly, open-screen screening of short films, of any genre, that have a duration of 1 to 6 minutes (could be higher, up to you). Filmmakers can show-up on the night to screen their newest shorts, sight unseen. The fresh and spontaneous screening of short films of any genre and all filmmaking levels creates an awesome and surprisingly balanced film night for the public and for the filmmakers who climb on stage after their film for a quick interview with the host.
