What we're about

Only 1 hour from New York City, Kittatinny Valley State Park headquarters is located 7 miles north of Interstate 80 in Andover Township, Sussex County, NJ. This naturally scenic and historically significant park encompasses over 5,600 acres of land and more than 75 miles of trail extending into Morris and Warren County. Its three rail-trails (Sussex Branch Trail, Paulinskill Valley Trail, and Great Valley Rail-Trail) provide a smooth, level surface perfect for biking, running, and cross-country skiing. Entrance to the park is free.

Our year-round schedule of public nature programs and events offers a multitude of opportunities for children and adults to get outdoors. We also welcome program requests by schools, scout groups, and civic organizations. Please call (973) 786-6445 to register for programs or for more information, and be sure to visit http://www.njparksandforests.org for a listing of all of New Jersey's beautiful state parks, forests, and historic sites.

FYI - Kittatinny Valley State Park events are advertised in a number of locations. Be sure to call (973) 786-6445 to pre-register with payment ASAP to ensure your spot - some programs fill up very quickly!

For teens & adults. Let's explore some "new" trails in the New Year - time to get out of the house, safely socialize, and soak in the scenery on this 6-mile hike. Let's explore scenic Stokes State Forest towards sunset. If we're lucky, maybe there will even be a sprinkling of snow!

Sturdy, ankle-supporting hiking boots and hiking poles are recommended, as are "The Ten Essentials": https://www.outdoors.org/resources/amc-outdoors/gear/the-10-essentials-revisited/

Keep in mind that these events are advertised in many locations, therefore the RSVPs listed here will be less than the actual group size.

In registering for this program, you agree to follow the CDC guidelines regarding visiting parks, which are: 1) Not attending if you are sick, have tested positive for COVID 19 and haven’t recovered, or have been recently exposed to COVID-19; 2) Staying at least 6’ away from people not in my own family group, and 3) washing (with soap and water) or sanitizing hands before and after the program.
