The goal of the project is to build a one billionth scale model of our solar system on the OC&E State Park Trail. The project is in direct support of STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The finished project will give the children (and others) an appreciation for the size of the solar system while providing exercise as they explore the planets. (Who knows? We may even inspire some of our youth to become scientist!) To give you an idea of the project, the Sun, will be located at the old railroad trestle just west of Wiard Park with the planets stretching out to the east along the trail. Note that the Sun is 54" in diameter, the Earth is 483' from the sun and is .49" in diameter. Pluto (Yes, we are calling it a planet!) is 3.6 miles from the Sun! Jupiter will be 5.55" in diameter.
