Welcome to the third Bitcoin meetup of 2019!
This time we will have an introduction to BEAM and the new MimbleWimble tech powering it.
"MimbleWimble is one of those crazy things that happen in the crypto space which some day will be in a movie." -Andreas Antonopoulos
In August 2016 an anonymous user called Tom Elvis Jedusor placed the original MimbleWimble whitepaper on a Bitcoin research channel and then disappeared. The whitepaper was quickly discovered to contain groundbreaking innovations pertaining to blockchain privacy and scalability.
It is likely that MimbleWimble may be implemented in Bitcoin as a sidechain in the future, but there are other implementations of the protocol already operating.
Beam is a cryptocurrency that demonstrates an emphasis on privacy and anonymity with MimbleWimble implementation.
Without address information stored on the blockchain and keeping transactions private by default, Beam is meant to give control over privacy to users and scalability in its compact design. Having no pre-mine or ICO, Beam is backed by a treasury and designated a non-profit foundation to govern the protocol.
On Thursday March 14th, we will again gather at the Forklog co-working space, this time with free drinks and appetizers, for an introduction to Beam. Also known as the Bitcoin traveler, speaking at last year's October meetup, Beam ambassador Rafael Hauxley will address:
- Miners: Learn how to mine this fascinating new tech.
- Programmers: Introduce yourselves to the Mimblewimble protocol.
- Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: Discover BEAM and the BEAM Foundation.
This conversation centers around the importance of privacy on the blockchain and also covers the MimbleWimble Implementation and protocol.
The gathering will also facilitate the cross-pollination of ideas to drive towards a more sustainable blockchain ecosystem within the Kraków community.
