What we're about
Dear Spiritual Seekers:
Kriya Yoga is an ancient method of living and meditation that cultivates body, mind, intellect, and awareness of the soul using powerful meditative and yoga disciplines. It helps us to experience the three divine qualities of light, vibration and sound by using techniques of concentration, posture and breathing. This develops a one-pointed mind, which enables us to penetrate the deepest levels of consciousness and to change our lives. Kriya Yoga teaches that any action, kri, is done by ya, the indwelling soul. It is a universal spiritual discipline that crosses all divisions and boundaries.
Our local group, or satsang ("Being in the company of the truth or the good, by sitting together with a guru or a group of spiritual students"), is one of many local groups of Kriya Yoga International (KYI) - http://kriya.org/.
Kriya Yoga International is part of the lineage of Mahavatar Babaji Maharaj, Shri Lahiri Mayasaya, Swami Srhi Yukteswar Giri, and Paramahansa Yogananda (author of "Autobiography of a Yogi"), Paramahansa Hariharananda, and Paramahansa Prajnanananda. Our gurudev, Paramahamsa Hariharananda, was a direct disciple of Swami Shri Yukteswar Giri, who was also Paramahansa Yogananda's guru. Paramahamsa Hariharananda's direct disciple, Paramahamsa Prajnanananda, has been carrying out his guru's mission since his passing in 2002.
We typically gather bi-weekly for group meditations and readings of the Bhagavad Gita, one of the great sacred texts of India. These satsangs are open to anyone who has completed initiation. Semi-annual initiations are offered in May and November. The next initiation is November 12th and 13th, of which this free talk is a part.
