If you’d like to try Kyokushin Karate, well done: A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. We’d like to make that first step as easy as possible so here’s four quick tips to make it a little easier:

Have fun. We know it’s your first time and we’ll do everything we can to help you understand what is going on and how it all works. Don’t worry if you feel like a fish out of water – we all had to start somewhere. You’ll advance at your own pace as you build up fitness, muscle-memory and knowledge over time. If resources allow, we’ll give you one-on-one assistance to master the basics.
Bring some loose fitting sports clothes: track-pants and a T-shirt will be just fine. We can sort you out with a gi (a karate training uniform) when you commit to training on a more permanent basis. You will need to remove jewellery – particularly rings – as you will be punching other karate-ka (students).
Bring a bottle of water. You’ll lose a lot of water (and a quite a few calories) in a training session.
Tell the Sensei or lead instructor if you have any injuries that we need to manage.
