Paddle Around Peebles Island and Beyond

We will be paddling around Peebles Island.  This spot allows us unique views of the cliffs, from the base up.  If we are lucky we may see eagles and other wildlife, such as the deer of the island coming down to the water for a drink.

We will start at the Waterford Boat Launch area, paddle the Hudson River a short way then go up one side of the island and back down, around the east side and up the other side to see a remarkable natural phenomenon, for lack of the appropriate geologic term, a huge glacial pot hole carved out of the running water.  We will paddle as far as we can go on both sides of the island to the falls.  If time permits we can paddle north on the Hudson River to explore that part of the river.

Minimum age is 8 (8-15 yrs must have a participating adult with them, 16-17 yrs must have a parent/guardian sign participant agreement but do not need to attend)

Please be dressed for the weather, we will go rain (thundershowers will cancel this event) or shine

  • please bring water, snacks and any personal medicines you may need as well as sunscreen and bug repellant
  • Don't forget your kayak, PFD (required), whistle, white light, glow sticks and paddle for an evening of fun

Directions:

The access road to the boat launch area is just before the Waterford side of the entrance to the Peebles Island State Park (do not go over the bridge).  Take South Street to First Street and the boat launch is at the end of First Street.

A very nice evening on the water. Peebles Island is a place I have always wanted to go. Now I can say I been there. Thank you Dorothy and Karen.

So disappointed (again) to miss this one. It is a beautiful night for kayaking around the island. Enjoy!

I've only parked *at* Peebles Island (for hiking), and I want to make sure I get the correct boat launch site. I may have to be 'talked though' this one closer to 5pm.

The directions sound like we're _not_ meeting at the Waterford Park~??

If I take the way I know to Peebles and *then* go over the bridge, do I take a bit of a sharp right down into the access road?

The map shows an incorrect location. If you type First St. as opposed to 1st St. into the search function it will give you the correct location

Can you take off the +2 on my name---it's just me for the evening.

    June 17, 2013

  • Jeannie T.

Me, my son Caleb, and my housemate Linda :-).

I can only +2 for guests, so I'm not sure how to have my son Elisha come....

So if all 4 of our household don't make it on the list (up the waitlist), then it'll just be me 'n Caleb or ....you know I'll update the RSVP...

If you want to bring more than 2 guests, they have to register individually to be added to the list.

*Right*. Bop me on the head. You explained this when I was trying to get Caleb to sign up for things :-). I will get _someone_ in the household to sign up as well :-).
