Bestia Take 2 - Seasonal Italian DTLA

Our first dinner at Bestia with the group was AMAZING, and I'd love for more of you to be able to join, and to try more items on the menu.  Last time chef Ori came out and talked to us for quite a bit and even offered us some salumi (which are amazing and made in house).  The oven there is also quite impressive and turns out great pizzas.  According to the chef, the menu isn't straight Italian, but rather Italian influenced by his Israeli background.  He confesses his love for his mentor, Gino Angelini from Angelini Osteria and you see the influence from his work there in his current menu at Bestia.  Bestia is a red hot dinner ticket and rightfully so!

As usual, let's go and share FAMILY STYLE to get the most out of the extensive menu.  I'm guesstimating $40-$50 per person excluding tax and tip.

What we're tasting, then, is a new, anti-California cuisine, Italian cooking that willfully turns its back on the lessons taught by Wolfgang Puck, Mark Peel and Celestino Drago, among others, food whose flavors are neither amplified nor perfected but are simply presented as themselves. You may think the cassoeula — or the simply grilled orata, Italian sea bass, stuffed with boiled broccoli rabe; or the chunky cavatelli pasta tossed with chopped black truffles, sausage and cheese — are rather bland. I think they may be among the most purely Italian dishes I have ever tasted in Los Angeles.
