FAQ

FAQ:

1. DO I HAVE TO BE A VEGETARIAN TO JOIN?
No, you don't have to be a vegetarian/vegan to join us. But please do not bring meat to any of our events.

2. WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES DO WE DO?
While this is mostly a hiking group, we also have other social events like movie screenings, parties, bicycle riding, etc. We have also had camping and backpacking trips in the past. Most of our events also involve vegan/vegetarian food! We either visit vegetarian/vegan restaurants or have potluck parties. We are open to all kinds of activities as long as they are fun and safe. Do email us if you have any ideas!

3. WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
Do you enjoy the outdoors? Do you want to meet fun vegetarian/vegan people around LA? Do you want to have an awesome time with wonderful people and make new friends? Then you should join us.

4. FEES: Is there a fee to join this group?
Currently, there is no fee required to be a member of this group. However, our organizers have to pay the monthly meetup.com charges. If you would like to make a donation, you are more than welcome! We do charge for parking, camping expenses if there is any fee involved.

5. CAN I HIKE WITH CHILDREN?
We are mostly adults in our 20s to 60s. While we do not mind your bringing children along, remember that we are not responsible for their safety. Most of our hikes might be too challenging for little kids.

6. IS IT SAFE?
Since this is an outdoor activities club, any activity comes with some sort of safety issue. We are not responsible for safety of any kind. When you hike with us, you are responsible for your own safety. However, our organizers will do their best to warn you in advance of things you need to keep in mind.

7. IS THERE ANY REQUIREMENT TO JOIN YOUR GROUP?
There is no membership requirement at this time. However, we would like you to fill out your profile WITH A FACE PHOTO so we know who is hiking with us. You also need to login to our Meetup.com site at least once every 3 months. Members who have not logged in to our website for more than a year will be considered inactive and may be removed on a regular basis. So please visit our web pages, join our discussions or simply RSVP “NO” even if you are extremely busy. To keep our group active, we ask that members attend an event at least once a year. After all, we like to keep our groups small, so that we can get to know each other well and eventually become friends. Most people join the group to connect with other local veggie hikers and to make friends.

8. WHY DO YOU HAVE RSVP LIMITS FOR SOME OF YOUR EVENTS
RSVP limits are based on a few factors. Most of the time, it is because of the limited seating available in the restaurants we go to, after our hikes. However, our organizers retain the right to have an RSVP limit even if there is no dining for concerns of safety and to create a friendly environment. If you are in the waiting list, please do respect our RSVP limit. Contact our organizers first to see if you can “sneak in”.

9. CAN I JUST RSVP "yes" FIRST AND DECIDE LATER IF I WANT TO COME?
Our organizers work very hard to plan great events and it is very discouraging when people who RSVP "Yes" don't show up. We request you to simply change your RSVP to NO if you decide not to come after having RSVPed Yes. RSVPing is very important to our event planning. If you find that you are not able to make it to an event please change your RSVP ASAP. We do keep track of your attendance record to estimate final RSVP numbers. So, if you have a large number of "NO SHOWS" record, we reserve the right to either change your RSVP in our future events or remove you from our group. To avoid having a "NO SHOW" record, please make sure you change your RSVP before the event even if you do call us to cancel your RSVP because meetup.com won't allow us to change your RSVP record once the event starts.

10. HOW MANY EVENTS CAN I SIGN UP?
We appreciate your enthusiastic excitement of trying to RSVP on every event we post. Although there is no limit of how many events you can sign up, please be serious of attending and consider giving other members opportunities to attend our events.

11. DO I HAVE TO PAY TO ATTEND YOUR EVENTS?
Our events are mostly free. For some activities that require reservation in some facilities, for example, campground reservation, an early meet up announcement is posted and a deposit is requested. Our organizers tried their best to accommodate everyone. If you change your mind after RSVP dateline, you won’t get your deposit back. The fund will be treated as your donation to maintain our club.

12. CAN I BRING MY DOG(S)?
There are many regulations about hiking with dogs. Dogs must be leashed in National Forests. They are NOT allowed in National Parks at all and NOT in many State Parks either. If the trail is dog-friendly, we will mention it in our meet-up announcement and you are welcome to bring your dogs as long as they won't cause any chaos. In case we do not mention on the meetup post if dogs are allowed on the trail, please send the organizers an email and they will check this information for you.

13. HOW DO YOU DEFINE WHAT IS AN EXPERT HIKE, A MODERATE HIKE AND AN EASY HIKE?
We try to use three terms to tell our members what to expect during the hikes. Easy hikes are the hiking routes that are well maintained, short (less than 5 miles) and with an elevation gain of less than 1000 ft. Moderate hikes are those in between 5~8 miles and with elevation gain inbetween 1000 to 2000 ft. Moderate hikes also have some tough spots on the trail. Expert hikes are hikes that are long (more than 8 miles), elevation gain more than 2000 ft, and sometimes require bush walking or off-trail hiking.

14.HOW DO YOU SELECT RESTAURANTS TO VISIT?
We try to pick restaurants around the hiking area or somewhere close to carpool, so our members won’t have to spend too much time driving back and forth. Before we select a restaurant, we also check its online rating so we can have a nice meal.

15. DO YOU TAKE PICTURES DURING MEET-UPS?
We do take candid shots to document our activities and we do post them on our meetup.com website. And because we do not set our group private at this point, the pictures we post on meetup.com are accessible to the public. As opinions about candid shots are very subjective, it is your responsibility to inform the photographers whether you want to be in the pictures or not, in the beginning of the meet-up so we can respect your privacy. However, we can’t promise to exclude you from the background in our shots. Our photographers will do their best to pick up the pictures that fit your requirement and post them on the web. If you find the pictures are offensive, please contact us and we will glad to remove the pictures from the web on your behalf. However, because our meet-ups are events in public places, we do reserve the right on the final decision.
