Charles' Presentation Synopsis: Analog vs. Digital: Rhythms of the Natural World, our Struggle to Compute Them, and Windows 8:

If digital technologies are so great, why do we increasingly hide digital computation under fluid and bouncy user interfaces? If analog computers are so lame, why are they also so clever, so elegant, and so fascinating? Join Charles Petzold in an exploration of analog vs. digital computation of natural processes in a talk that connects Vannevar Bush’s Differential Analyzer of the 1920s to Windows 8 and other modern user interfaces.

Charles' Bio:

Charles Petzold has been programming for Microsoft Windows since 1985 and writing about it nearly as long. He wrote the first magazine article about Windows programming, and one of the first books on the subject. That book, Programming Windows, is now in its 6th edition, having recently been entirely rewritten for Windows 8. He is also the author of books on .NET programming, and Windows Phone 7, as well as two unique books that explore the origins and underpinnings of digital computing: Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software and The Annotated Turing: A Guided Tour through Alan Turing’s Historic Paper on Computability and the Turing Machine. He is currently writing a column for MSDN Magazine on DirectX programming, and working on a book about the roots and concepts of analog computing.

The Venue: Parking is FREE: The Gate to the Parking Area Goes Up at 6:00pm. You can see photos of the venue here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gglipgijlz3tcfd/PremierProperties_CP_Conexant.zip

Please be courteous and leave as close to 9pm as you can, unless you are a clean-up volunteer. We have a lot going on and we need to stick to schedule. Therefore, there will be no bio-breaks. If you need to go, quietly leave the room and return.

For LA Sluggers, if you haven't RSVP'd on vNext_OC's Meetup site, please do. That will assist in keeping track of how many attendess so we know how much food and drink to get. Much appreciated!!!
