Overnight kayak camping on 18 Mile Island

The weather will be a bit cooler this weekend (High 90/Low 70), so it's a good time for camping. We'll be camping out again on 18 Mile Island. The island is only about a mile from the boat ramp, so there's not a whole lot of paddling to do to get there. This is a great way to try out kayak camping just to make sure you bring all the right stuff, and that it all fits in your boat. And if it turns out you forgot something the boat ramp is just a short 10-15 minute paddle away. Once there we can hike around the island and paddle around. There are some old structures to check out on the island, and the narrow passage on the KY side of the island is a fairly scenic paddle. And if you just want to come out for the day and not camp that's great too. The actual time people arrive, and actual camping spots will kinda be up in the air. Last time we had people spread out along the beach, but within walking distance of the campfire. But the kayaks should be easy to spot. You can also call my cell to get an update as to where we are:[masked]-5705. Keep an eye on this page for any updates. Aprox camping spot:

It is perfectly legal to camp along the shoreline of any navigable waterway. You are permitted any non-destructive use up to the point where high water normally reaches every year. It is not OK to camp up on the grassy part of the island, off of the beach. The owner doesn't seem to mind people going up there, but we tend to always stay on the beach.

"Is it legal to camp on the Island?"
This was discussed some time ago.
It is not illegal to camp on the island and that is the way that it should be looked at, if one wants to keep it simple. I and many others have been boat camping there for many years. If we are careful and considerate with our use of it, "leave no sign camping", (packing all trash out), then there should be no problem, now, or in the future.
