Harrods Creek after work paddle

Officially changing meeting place to the Community Boathouse.  The boathouse is located just to the East of Tumbleweed on River Rd, it shares the same parking lot as the UofL Rowing Team and you'll see a building with giant oars sticking up.  There is a walk down boat ramp behind the building.

Awesome time last night. First time out with the LACK group. You made us feel welcome. Thanks and we are looking forward to next week.

Thursday May 8 10:20 pm Our staff arrived at the Harbor tonight shortly after the LACK members began their evening on the water. A check of our honor box revealed that it appears the honor box of $5. per kayak/or canoe was not respected by users of the facility. That is disappointing, as we welcome LACK and its members to the river. We had been working non-stop to ready the Harbor for this week the past two days, and observed many users of the facility arriving to the Harbor. We hope that for those who elected to disrespect the honor box will do so in the future and even consider compensating the Harbor in the honor box very soon, which is simply the right thing to do. $5 to uses the facility is a pretty low cost evening.

Most of the people on the signup list for this event launched from the Community Boathouse. If there were a lot of people at HCBH that didn't pay, they probably didn't have anything to do with LACK.

I had other commitments yesterday evening and couldn't paddle, but drove by the Harbor at around 7:00 to see if the ramp was open yet in case I want to go out this weekend. There were only two vehicles parked by the ramp/docks (also several pickups with boat trailers parked on the hill area) at that time.

Cable is there still, park, carry boat 50 ft, paddle.

    May 8, 2014

    • Greg M.

Cable is there for a reason, you're trespassing if you cross it. And doubly so by parking in the CQ parking lot.

Just checked the Harrods Creek Captains Quarters launch. Its completely clear, looks better than it has in years. A group of us are still going to launch there and paddle the creek if anyone wants to join.

    whats the deal pickle?
    is it a go?
i'm not familiar with the community boathouses location exactly. is it around tumbleweed?

    May 7, 2014

    • Greg M.

The Community Boathouse is just East of Tumbleweed. The UofL rowing building is in the same lot and has a bunch of oars sticking up in the air. There is a boat ramp around back. Hopefully that one is not also a mess.

I exchanged emails w/Jim Willis yesterday and, while he did not say they would be open by tomorrow, he did say he and his crew were working to get things cleaned up and ready for business. These cats know how to get things done so we may still be good to go. Just got off work so I think I'll drive over and check their progress. Give y'all an update in a bit.

Per Nathan's update, it's pretty much a certainty that we'll have to cancel the paddle. Alternatively we can meet at the Community Boathouse (just East of the Big 4 Bridge), and paddle downtown. But that's dependent on the Ohio water level.

Great idea, trip is cancelled however. Ramp is closed, parking lot gated and there is a foot of mud in it...

Good to see this on the calendar again this year. A friendly reminder; If there is a chance you will be on the water past 8:30ish (sunset), please bring a light. Practically any light will do. Headlamp? Sure. Flashlight? Absolutely. Camp lantern? Why not? Candle? Well.... maybe not. Its a safety thing.

Probably wont be there by 6 but will try to catch up with my crazy short boat skills.
