Author/KPCC book critic/Libros Schmibros book store proprietor (and personal friend!) David Kipen will be at the downtown Central Library discussing the book, Los Angeles in the 1930s: The WPA Guide to the City of Angels. Originally published in the 1930's as part of the Works Progress Administration effort to support writers during the depression under the Federal Writers Project, this guide series - which included cities throughout the country - is a snapshot of 1930's L.A.. It includes some great monochromatic photos and a wonderful introduction by David Kipen. David is a wonderfully engaging, witty and enthusiastic speaker (if you've heard him on the Madeleine Brand show on KPCC, you'll know what I'm talking about!) and I'm sure it will be a fascinating discussion for those interested in Los Angeles during the 1930's.

I really enjoyed this event. The topic was fascinating and the speakers were so engaging. I learned so much about L.A. and the WPA program and will most certainly go out and try to find these projects on my own. Thank you so much for suggesting it!

I will not be able to attend, so it won't be a "hosted" event. I encourage any that attend to keep an eye out for other members and say hello!
    Have a great time!
