Belmont Shore Christmas Parade/A Candyland Christmas
Dec 3, 2016 - 5:00 PM
Belmont Shore Christmas Parade
It’s time to dress your dog up in holiday spirit because LARPBO has been invited to participate in the 34th Annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade!

WHEN: Saturday, December 3, before 5pm, RAIN OR SHINE. The parade starts promptly at 6pm, so we recommend arriving around 5-5:30 p.m. (or earlier) in order to find parking and the LARPBO staging area. The beach lots will be free after 3 p.m.
WHERE: The parade route is along East Second Street and begins heading east from Livingston Avenue to Bayshore Avenue. Entries return to Livingston Avenue heading west along the north side of East Second Street. The parade route is 1.2 miles long.

WHO: All LARPBO humans(**) and trainer-approved canines(*). (*) This is an EXTREME distraction event for dogs. It's also a high profile event with thousands of spectators. We are, therefore, requiring that your dog be approved by one of the LARPBO trainers before he/she can participate. Distractions include marching bands, fire trucks, horses, kids riding scooters/skateboards, robots, people in costume, etc. Dogs will also be walking next to other LARPBO dogs (NOT single file as done during pack walks). Although our trainers are very knowledgeable, you know your dog best, so please use your best judgment in determining whether or not to bring your dog. We want all of our dogs to remain on Santa’s Nice List. (**)All participating humans must have both LARPBO and holiday spirit! We’d love for you and your family to join us, even if your dog can’t attend! The Parade Requirement is that you must dress in a festive manner. Ideally, we’d like everyone to wear a LARPBO shirt and a festive hat or something theme related! Please do not wear political apparel or shirts that may be construed as offensive. Also, NO SANTA COSTUMES to ensure that little ones don’t get confused. If you would like a LARPBO shirt, please check with a volunteer at your local class.

LARPBO PARADE GUIDELINES FOR DOG HANDLERS

1. ONE DOG PER HANDLER.

2. Be prepared for cool weather. Our dogs have been delicate flowers in past years, and most required a fleece jacket or sweater. 3. Bring water, treats and poo bags. The parade organizers will fine us if we do not pick up after our dogs. 4. All dogs must have a secure collar and leash. No retractable leashes.

May I have your attention: Each person walking in the parade must sign a Release of Liability form. These forms will be available this weekend at both class locations. Please make sure that you turn your form in to me, Rita. I will need to have these turned in to the parade organizers no later than 1 week prior to the parade. There is also a parental consent form for those planning on bringing a youngster.

We were approved to bring Dallas, but I am concerned how he would react to any horses that may be nearby, so we will sit this one out. Next year !

You are still welcome to walk with us, Liz.

What I know about the parade. It's a little over a mile long. Please dress in layers. You just never know the weather. Bring rain gear - just in case. I usually park at the beach, Google Rosie's Dog Beach. I think parking is free inside the lot, but be aware it may not be. The parade route is wall-to-wall people. There will be extremely loud noises and air horns. The parade route is such that there is no easy out if you and your pup need one. :)

Tealeye, how far is it from Rosie's to the parade route? And, does LARPBO have a staging location yet?

  • Neil & Sharon K.

Hi Rita, Neil and I were cleared by Troy to participate in the parade with Buster.

That's awesome, Sharon. I'll be messaging the meeting location to everyone through here this week.

Do you know how long the route is? I'm going to RSVP yes for Yoda and I, but it's really going to depend on how my ankle is then. Hopefully it will be good enough that we can participate 😀

No more than 2 miles. The parade route itself is 1.2 but you have to figure in where you park and where we are staged at.

Please make sure to read all the LARPBO/parade guidelines. All dogs *MUST* be CGCA titled or approved by a trainer at either SO or LB. This event is high profile event with MANY distractions. Please make sure that your dog is able to handle that kind of stimulation and remain an excellent ambassador for our community and their breed.
