Swerve 'N' Curve 13!

The LASG will once again be heading to the beach to join the South Bay Scooter Club for their yearly rally extravaganza, Swerve 'N' Curve. For many LASG members, this is their first scooter rally. It's a great chance to meet riders from all over the region, see an amazing array of scooters, and take a ride around the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula.

We will be meeting at the Randy's Donuts in Inglewood at 10:00am and departing by 10:30am. Come a little early if you want to make sure to get fully caffeinated and donut-ed before we depart. We'll be doing the noon Swerve ride and afternoon party, then heading back in the late afternoon. (There is also a Friday night event, which we will not be organizing an official ride to.)

The route to the South Bay is friendly for scooters over 100cc.

  • At Randy's please park along the striped wall in back (behind the Loui's burger stand) and try to pack into as few parking spaces as possible. I also recommend buying a donut and coffee!
  • There's a gas station across the street from Randy's and another across from the Swerve meetup in Torrance.
  • If you want a rally pack (Swerve 'n' Curve 4-color t-shirt and pin), they're $25. Bring cash! They will be available at Tony Roma's and at the end of the ride.

The Swerve ride will end at the party in Palos Verdes. Food and drink will be provided by rally sponsor. Since we'll likely be leaving separately or in small groups, everyone should know how to get home from there! The party is close to Wayfarer's Chapel (5755 Palos Verdes Drive South, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA).

We have two pre-Meetups for riding to Randy's. Both meet up at 8:30am and depart at 9am.

  • West Valley: Starbucks on Ventura & Topanga
  • Studio City: Aroma, 4360 Tujunga Ave.

Keep in mind that while we are organizing the ride to the rally, Swerve 'N' Curve is put on by another organization. LASG does not choose the times and locations and we don't run the ride. We'll do our best to answer any questions you may have, though.

Here's the rally announcement [updated 8/23] from the South Bay Scooter Club (more at http://swervencurve.com):

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25th:12noon: LOCATION CHANGE: Instead of the MB Pier, please now meet at TONY ROMA'S restaurant in Torrance (corner of Crenshaw & Lomita Blvds). MAPS will be given out before the ride, so be sure to get one.

1PM: Ride leaves for the original, and often-copied, SOUTH BAY SWERVE 'N' CURVE ROUTE through Palos Verdes.

After doing the beautiful Swerve N Curve route, we will be ending the ride at the home of South Bay Scooter Club member, Mac McClellan. Mac has a great party backyard at his house, on an acre and a half of land just behind the Wayfarer's Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Be sure to bring your bathing suits as Mac has invited everyone to use his nice-sized swimming pool and lounge area, where the band, THE SHOUT, will be playing for our entertainment!!

FREE food and drinks will be served, thanks to our sponsor, PLANET LAMBRETTA!Mac will be serving keg beer for everyone to enjoy, as well.

There will also be a Scooter Show, with awards for Best Vintage & Best Modern Scooter given out after the judging.

Should be a Swerve N Curve Party for the history books, so don't miss it!

For those who aren't sure what to expect Saturday, here's the LASG itinerary:

  1. Meet at Randy's at 10:00am. Get a donut if you like. Organize into riding groups. Ride instructions.
  2. Depart at approx. 10:30am.
  3. Ride to Tony Roma's in Torrance for Swerve n Curve.
  4. Meet scooterists, check out scooters, hang out!
  5. Swerve ride departs at approx. 1pm!
  6. Ride around the beautiful Palos Verdes peninsula. There's usually a stop or two along the way for photos, etc.
  7. Arrive at Swerve party!
  8. Eat, hang out. Awards will be given.
  9. We'll depart individually or in small groups. (Make sure you have a route home from Rancho Palos Verdes.)

Please read our Policies and Group Riding Guidelines before attending an LASG ride: http://www.meetup.com/LAScooterGroup/messages/boards/forum/1490159

I'm listening. . . contact me directly with details about the silverwing. I'm actively looking for some bigger options. I'll probably keep the Blur but add another two wheeler to my arsenal. Hehe.

FYI - As far as rally swag this year, we ran out of rally t-shirts, as we did not anticipate the massive amount of rally attendees that went. We also didn't have any patches made. BUT, if you would like either of these items, we will try and re-print a small number of shirts, as well as produce a limited number of patches. We do, however, need a miniumum of 25 pre-orders before producing either of these. SO, if you didn't get a shirt and/or want a patch, please e-mail us at [masked] for all the details on how to order them, and hopefully we'll get enough orders to be able to actually get them. Thanks, guys! Cheers!! Mario & the SBSC

Another great video! I saw Kraftwerk at the Greek several years ago and they were great. What I didn't get, though, was at certain points, the really hardcore fans would start applauding. It wasn't necessarily prompted by a musical cue (as far as I could tell). It was like one of the guys onstage pushed a button really well and deserved a round of applause! Still, for four guys standing behind keyboards, it was a fun show.

      August 29, 2012

    • JT

Ha ha! That's right! Everybody can push a button, but to do it really well... i.e. with German accuracy and precision...now that's art :)

Hi, everyone! I've been looking through all the great pics from the rally and thoroughly enjoying them. I was hoping to ask a favor of the group members - if they could also post their shots up at scoot.net so that other people, who can't see them on here, can also enjoy them. Here is the link where you can post the pics: http://scoot.net/gallery/2012/08/swervencurve/ . Thanks so much - I appreciate it!!

unfortunately my front luggage rack was in the way so the video isn't as great as i'd like, but i'll come up with something. for now, check out this link. aside from seeing a bunch of statistical information, you can click the PLAY button so you can relive the event. you can also adjust the playback speed and zoom in/out!

I met many cool scooterists today, even one who happens to be a neighbor! The route was beautiful, the weather cool, the party was the perfect ending!

That was such a great day from Randy's to the ride home on Palos Verdes. From riding in a group of 204 to the ride to and fro with a couple new friends. Whether it was getting lost or getting to ride the route twice. Whether it was seeing the smile on a kids face as we passed or the scowl on the drivers faces as they had to wait for 204 bikes to make a turn. From teenagers to those that are maybe a little older. Thanks to the organizers, our party host (I want to live there for ever and ever), thanks to the people of Palos Verdes for putting up with us, thanks to PVPD for not pulling a one of us over(there is a rumor that one or two traffic laws may have been broken), thanks to everyone who made this day one I will never forget.
